I never even heard of India making a sub cal kit for FN. I though they had all they could do with the rifles they were making at the time.

Indian sub cal kits for the L1A1. I'd previously asked the Indian Army LO about these and got back from him their parts list - which was a simple copy of the H&K parts list including the Germanicon NATO identifier. They'd clearly locally sourced some of the small consumables such as springs and circlips etc etc as the part numbers had been changed to reflect this - presumably in the interests of their economy. So presumably the Indian Army hybrid rifle just used bog standard off the shelf H&K sub cal kits. No doubt these are lurking there ready for disposal unless their L1A1's are still in regular use within their order of battle.

I think I mentiuoned it somewhere, but the actual .22" magazine that fits into the actual L1A1 rifle magazine is a bog standard H&K .22" rifle part and is still available. It is held into the interface by a small tab and allen screw. Can anyone tell us which H&K rifle tha .22" magazine came from

The magazine used in the G3 version is from the HK270. Don't know about the L12A1 kits but I would hazard it's the same unit.

HK270 magazines are not all that easy to find in the states these days---though there are some sources yet---but there is a clone being made specifically for feeding a conversion kit for the MAC submachineguns that seems to be a stretched HK270 magazine?

I've been looking for the inserts used to fit the HK270 magazine into the G3 magazine's body, as currently the conversion kit magazines are in the US$100+ range and nearly impossible to find while G3 magazines are US$2 and HK270 magazines are US$25. But so far no luck. Reverse-engineering the unit may be the only option.

There are at least two US companies looking to build magazines for the G3 conversion kits (Black Dog Magazines and Bazooka Brothers) but nothing for the L1/C1 or FAL kits. Those are so rare in the US that I doubt anyone will risk it. If someone were to make the adapter units for the kits, to enable folks to assemble their own from HK270 magazines and cheap surplus full-bore magazines then they would likely have no problems selling them.

    Question

My FN/FAL has a run fast switch, and is it ever fun to shoot! I wonder if any modification would be necessary on one of the 22 conversion kits - should I ever be so lucky as to find one?

The ones we had(Canadaicon) were perfect in the C1 A1s. No mods were required. Just two boys with buckets to keep ammo to it!

Man, my observation is these seem to be about as rare as hen's teeth (L12A1 sub-caiber conversion kits). It would be a great service if somehow, the resources available on this board, could muster together a number of kits for resale. If the Indian Government has them, maybe they would be willing to release for surplus, depending on as pointed out, whether the L1A1 still figures in their battle plans?

I might give Sarco a call, but the minute someone starts showing an interest in something, the prices go up. Simple supply and demand.

Still hard to imagine what becomes of all the government property, once it goes dormant? Where could it be?

You will frequently find that the little breechblock has not got enough momentum to trip the safety sear on its way forward.
