hello everyone im just getting started here i didnt realize what a following old military weapons have. ihave a 98mauserthat has been in the family since my dad brought it home. im glad i found this site because i was going to modify it for hunting fortunitly a gun dealer showed me the proper way .its slightly modified but in less than i hour i can restore it to orignal shape .so im interested in learning all i can about the history of the mauser which i found out is quite a lot

Needless to say, but I am a new member just saying hello...


I live in Australia, and as such am heavily restricted on what type of firearms I am permitted to own. So, I am slowly but surely getting into milsurp rifles.

I've owned plenty of firearms since first starting out nearly 2 years ago (Savage Edge, Weatherby Vanguard, Howa 1500, Stirling Folding, BSA Sportsman 15, Savage MKII F, Savage MKII FV, La Coruna FR8 'carbine', Longbranch No4 MKI*, Stoeger Outback Tactical U/O, another FR8, Israeli Mauser, IAC 87) and now I have plans to buy a single shot .22 of some kind and jazz it up a bit for my mother who has only recently taken an interest in firearms.

Most of my shooting time is spent either informal target shooting, or hunting. All of the firearms mentioned above were sold off to pay for this or that, so the only guns I still own are the x3 listed in my sig line.

I adore anything related to the German military, of any period; however WW2 and the immediate years post WW2 hold a special interest in my mind.

My Israeli Mauser, originally an Oberndorf 1917 Gew98 (matching bolt and receiver) which was then stockpiled, and most likely issued late in the war during the defence of Berlin (assumptions assumptions - but the bottom of the receiver is marked '45 - among other things, but no ww2 waffenampts are present). Rehashed post war and put into service by the IDF in 1957 (ordnance and IDF markings, and date - among other things) this ironic piece of history is now in my care.

It is not a Turk Mauser, or even Turk issued (as many were) and still retains many of the original WW1 markings which is pretty interesting. It's current configuration is K98 (turned down bolt handle, front sight hood, different stock style, etc... etc...) and I absolutely love it.

I'm currently getting my degree in Nursing (... man nurse haha), so my time is split up between work and uni mostly. This year hasn't planned out too well, with an unforseen head injury negatively impacting on my ability to both work and study. Also, I haven't been out shooting in over 2 months !

So... rambling introduction out the way, I'm keen to contribute wherever I can and learn as much as I can - about the Mausers mostly. I'll get some pictures up as/when is suitable.

New member from Roswell, GA. Not a collector, just love shooting corrosive ammo. My mil surps are: M1 Garand - DCM purchase with July '44 serial #, Yugo M24/47, Mosin M91/59, Bulgarian AK-74 and a Lee-Enfield No. 4 Mk. 1 that is the best of the bunch (after the Garand). I don't hunt, but I can kill Coke cans all day, shooting off-hand at 70 yards. Practicing for the Zombie Apocalypse.

Hi fellas, new guy here with some recent additions to my old iron that came out of a shed. Much solid info from this site, such as the National Ordenance/Santa Fe 03A3 cautions (I happened on one Sunday). My 1st mil-surp was an Arisaka T38 MUM intact bring back that I butchered when I was 10. Still have it and in the process of accumulating parts to restore. PAX
