    New Oldie

Found this site by accident and since I've been playing with SMLEs since '63 and thought I join & read the forums and see if I can learn new things. Retired '91, US Army. Learned to shoot in the 50's using an 1093A3Rifle, M1917 .45 ACP S&W, 1911A1 and have been a weapons collector/shooter since. Fell in love (as a teenager) with the sight of the No.III MK.1; picked up a JJCO (Not a rebuild) like new in 1990 in the F323xx series. In '63-64ish bought a No5 MK1 new and used it hunting in Utah. NO wandering zero problems with it. Glad to be aboard.

    New member in Berlin, Germany

Hi All! The name´s Patrick and I´m stuck in Berlin. Not really a collector as the main interest is shooting (Luger P08, LP08 & Navy, my old service rifle, an LE No.5 and a Mauser 33/40 ... can only use a sort *rsed rifle as I´ve gotta cart em around on a motorbike).

Will still have to get to grips with uploading piccies

    New Member

Greetings one and all. I have been a member of Gunboards and Surplus Rifles for a while now and discovered this site by foolish luck.
I am 60, married for 35 ( Same wife) and have my youngest child ready to enter NAU in Flagstaff in a year or so.
Joined NRA at 14, and they ARE NOT perfect, but the best we've got,
I shoot unaltered Military rifles and started collecting when all you needed was a signature and the mail man would bring it to you,
My primary collecting interest is US Martial long arms, but I like a lot of the foreign rifles. I never had much of an interest in military pistols, but still managed to accumulate some.
My best collecting days are done, but I have picked up the odd fact or observation and plan on sharing them if the opportunity arises

    Regards AL DAMORE PHX. AZ.

    Newby from New Zealand

    Hi all,
am just getting into collecting and shooting service rifles.
My first and very recent (this week) purchases were a 1913 swedish M96 and a savage Mk4No1*.

The savage is marked BNP with a crown over the BNP, its serial number is 97C6717 and its not dated and has no US property marks, it also has many broad arrows stamped on it.

Can anyone give me a year of manufacture and a factory - from what i have read it maybe around early 1944? And any other info would be great?

Also for the No4 Mk1* - is there a parts list which tells you the thread type and lengths of the screws etc - should the front barrel band screw be the same as the rear barrel band screw - its just that they are the same but the front screw doesn't fit very nicely and the front bands is loose?

    Cheers
    Norml1
