A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Good Morning All

50 years ago on my 16th birthday I bought a 1943 Lee Enfield Long Branch No4 Mk1* sporter with the intent of bagging a moose with it. Never did. In fact, never did fire it. Instead, more modern & varied weaponry went with me on the hunt or to the range.
Now is the time to put a few rounds through her before Canadianicon gun laws get so restrictive that it may become too onerous or restrictive to do so.
I have been scanning this site's Enfield forum as a lead-in to doing so. Very interesting and informative. Thanks to all.

G'Day and greetings from down under.

I've been a member for a while but not actively participated until now.
Even though I have only been a collector for 4 years I have gathered a significant collection in that short time.
So far I have confined my interest to the 1870's to 1950's period, no muzzle loaders as yet. I don't specially collect any type or make of gun, everything is of interest especially if its different and unusual or in outstanding condition.

I'm fortunate to be the current owner of the 1942 simplified Enfield prototype that was featured on Forgotten Weapons, that would have to be the rarest gun I own and I intend to do a full owners review on it when I get time, including a range report. Yes I'm going to shoot it.

A pair of Winchester 1895 Russianicon contract rifles with almost sequential serial numbers is up there as well. The two rifles could have been packed in the same crate when they left Winchester, both where issued to the Russian army and both where captured by the Finns. One was subsequently converted by the Finns to a sporting rifle in 8.2x53R (a Finnishicon wildcat based on the 7.62x54R case) while the other was left all original and in very good un refinished condition. It's a very accurate shooter as well.
Both rifles ended up in Oz decades later where I purchased them from different people, what are the odds of that? It's a small world.

Anyway glad to be aboard guys.
