Hi all. I've been a member for a while but haven't been on here very much at all. Thanks for the membership. I've been collecting for around 35 years now and collect about anything (within reason) from WW1/WW2/Korea/ Vietnam etc. Having had 3 uncles in WW2, all Marines and all Sergeants, one of which won the silver star on Guadalcanal, I became interested in milsurp weapons and militaria at a very early age. Retiring in the mid '80s gave me the time needed to get halfway serious. I look forward to going through the forums and possibly dealing with you all. Have a great day and God bless.

I'm new to the forums and I'm happy to have found them. I just bought a Rock Island Arsenal 1903 serial 255xxx. I need a few parts and I'll be looking around to get them.
    Thanks, Joe.

    Good Afternoon Folks,

Avid student of history and things military. have had a few "plinkers" and a wall hanger 1863 springfield, but nothing serious until I was GIVEN a No 4 Mk 1 all matching Fazakerley as part of a vehicle sale. He felt bad because I sold the truck pretty cheap and said he had no use for it (his loss). It's been sitting on the wall in a rack with periodic cleanings for several years but I am finally ready to do my homework and make it a shooter. Already took it to a local gunsmith who checked it out as "very nice" with a clean, sharp bore ("never seen one like this, this good"). Even the headspace checked out with the original "0" head bolt. I did pick up a couple NOS # 1 and actually found a #2 that clocks in perfect just in case I can close it up beyond "field". Draws were FTR by the look with new wood and dowels and the fit is SNUG with proper up pressure at the bearing. Stripped in for cosmolineicon cleaning the long, tedious slow/low heat with repeated Murphy's then mineral oil wipes and soaking the metal. Now, the downside...

Cracked at the tie plate and guessing it was fired at some point with one peened head of the tie plate pin missing, or maybe just age and climate conditions combine with the broken pin. Based on the invaluable info on this site it is infinitely repairable with care as it's clean and surrounding wood is good. It's a small piece dead center in the rear cut and a tiny "block" cracked out from the pin channel upwards. couldn't even tell until cleaned up. Figuring titebond and clamp but I need to replace the brass tie pin. Had hoped to find an NOS replacement but its a search for the ark. Any ideas? What's the pin diameter if I am thinking of using brass brazing rod. How do I put an initial head on it without buggerinng the pin trying to hold it trying to make one?
