    D-Day

    D-Day, June 6th 1944

    The sand goes up
    The men came down
    Some to the beach
    Others dropped on a town

    We lost so many
    On that day long ago
    They tell me the stories
    For only they know

    They are the heroes
For the fights they lost and won
    Sometimes even
    To save just one

    So many friends and family
    Died on that land
    Today we remember
    Those who took a stand

    I wish I could thank
    Each and every one
    With a handshake and smile
    For all they have done

    Without those brave souls
    Our lives would be different
    For they took a stand
    Where others wouldn't

    We owe our freedoms
To those who fought long ago
    For on them this honor
    Of a hero I bestow

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. Before dinner tonight, I will hoist a glass of Evan Williams in honor of all those who were a part of that day, including my late uncle, Ben Harrod, a Coast Guard Gunners Mate First Class who served on the attack transport USS Samuel Chase (APA 26) which landed troops of The Big Red One at Normandy. Uncle Ben survived that and previous landings at North Africa and Sicily, subsequent landings in southern Franceicon, and kamikaze attacks after the Chase was sent to Okinawa in '45. He lived to the ripe old age of 95, and died at home in his own bed surrounded by loved ones. We should all be so lucky.
