    Hunting Load for Milsurps

Found a full box of Sierra 180gr. Pro Hunter bullets the other day, looking to load them up for possible use in deer hunting here in the Hoosier state during a depredation hunt this fall [special license, almost anything goes]. Want to make them compatible for use in my '03, 03A3, 1917, and also for one of my HRA Garands. Will be using LC 72 cases, CCI #34 primers, and 4895 powder. Looked through several of my reloading books last night, now a tad bit "cornfused" on what load should be for the 180 gr. load. Some list 45 as max, others up to 47 [commercial cases], but a saved note I have of a FA 59 Match pull down indicates that the powder load was 49.8 grains [4895?], with a 174.5 grain bullet [M1icon?]. Want a load that have a high enough velocity to do the job more than adequate, but will not harm the Garand should I decide to use it [not worried so much with the bolt guns]. What the military loaded [TM 43-0001-27] is so far off from my books, or I'm not reading things correctly, that I will just proceed to get the brass ready until I get some feedback from those who have already traveled this road before me. TIA

BTW, bought those bullets in '87 for $9.50, almost $25 today, inflation is a killer!

When I load 173 grain match bullets, I use 46 or 47 grains of 4895.

I never loaded anything but pull down powder in these loads, so I suggest you work up from a couple grains low to see how they shoot in your gun.

In the bolt guns, 46 grains of any 4350 seems to shoot better.
