    A4 trigger guards

Were all A4 trigger guards the type with "pads", or is that something that came about after production started? If so, anyone have a serial number range for when it was implemented?

The "Padded" TG was not unique to the A4 or for that matter, to Remington. Smith Corna produced TG's with the pad as well.
FWIW I've never seen a small bow TG with the pad

    to add to Mikes responce.
the pad is more likely to strengthen the guard, rather then to impove accuracy.
iv seen many A3 trigger guards cracked in that area.without the beafed up pad.

I'm not sure when the "pad" was added but the earliest A4's had a small bow stamped trigger guard/magazina assembly. Around the middle of 1943 the large bow trigger guard was introduced and used for the rest of production.

I can't be certain, but I believe the S/N 499xxxx rifles had pads in the trigger guards. That was about where the pads first appeared.

The earliest Smith-Corona rifle I show with a reinforced trigger guard is S/N 4792931 with SC/9-43 barrel. That's the beginning of the transition range as I currently have it.

    Mike,

For your info, the small bow trigger guard was long gone by the time the padded trigger guard appeared.

JB - Due respect Sir but that was my point in regard to small bow TG's.

John I believe the pads may have been introduced earlier. I have a late 1st block rifle (3423505) which I believe has the pad. I'll take it apart tomorrow and confirm.
The rifle has no indications of an overhaul.

    Regards,

    Jim
