An epitaph for the WWII generation
Best-selling author James Michener wrote an interesting "obituary", although directed at U.S. soldiers who fought in the Pacific, could be "expanded" to all veterans of World War II. It was written in his Pulitzer Prize-winning book, "Tales of the South Pacific" (1947):
"...They lived a long time, these men of the South Pacific. They had an American quality. They, like their victories, will be remembered as long as our [WWII] generation lives. After that, like the men of the Confederacy, they will become strangers. Longer and longer shadows will obscure them, until their Guadalcanal sounds distant on the ear, like Shiloh and Valley Forge".

Rick,
I read every WWII nonfiction book I can get my grubby hands on. Having wife as an assistant branch manager at local library for all these years (she retires as of June 30) has been an asset.
Thanks, Rick, for making so many WWII and WWII related firearms material know to me.
