Got a permission slip and was able to go to the range today

Wife gave me a signed permission slip today and I headed to Range 14 @ Fort Dix this AM. I met one of my friends from work and his dad (a former marine) and brought with me 3 garands, SA Inc. M1Aicon, AR15, and a Yugoicon Mauser. His dad had not touched a garand since 1966 in advanced infantry training. He really enjoyed himself and shot pretty good @ 100 yrds.

They went back to shooting some handguns and I brought out my AR just to double check my sights for a class I am taking next week. So I load in a 30 round PMAG let my friends father have some trigger time, when all of a sudden I notice the "kid" (baggy pants hanging below his but, t shirt 3 sizes to big, and sloppy looking) who is actually calling the line at the range walk over and tell me I can't use my 30 round mag. I explain to him I am an LEO show him my ID. The kid then becomes very befuddled and says well only load them with 15 rounds. This is the first time I have ever been hasseled by anyone at the range let alone some "kid". This totally pi$$ed me off. Well it started to rain and I only got to fire 1 of my garands. I guess it was better that we left, I was about to lose it on this kid. (I forgot to mention he gave me a bunch of grief earlier about my targets, told me I couldn't use plywood as a backer, I told him I'm not and using cardboard) His attitude sucked.

    Garands left to right
6 digit SA VAR barrel mixmaster parts
Recent CMPicon Springchester with birch stock I sanded and refinished
March of 43 all correct SA, just reparked by Shuff, with a boyds reject stock that I finished.

What are the established range rules regarding 30 round magazines and loading them all the way up? Do you feel that since you are a LEO, you might somehow be exempt from the rules if the kid was just following established range procedure?

My being an LEO doesn't exempt me. If the range rules say no whatever then it's no whatever. We have a local range that prohibits drawing from the holster to shoot. Okay, I'll draw from the table. HeHeHe

    BTW very nice Garands!

    I dunno???

The only thing I've seen that is a no no concerning weapons are they have to be shoulder fired, excluding handguns. Other than that, I've read nothing or heard anything concerning magazine capacity. It was the kid's whole approach and attitude that threw me off. You get a lot of active duty and other LEO's that use that range all the time.
Peoples republic of Jersey is one of those funny states with magazine capacity.
    Civilians:
detachable magazine in a semiauto gun can not have a capacity more than 15rounds.
    Active duty military and LEO:
can have higher capacity magazines for duty weapons. IIRC

......Talk about "attitude" - I'm a retired 27 1/2 Yr. State Trooper and your comments embarrass me. "Flashing your Badge/ID" at the Range to get your way! At a "Kid" that you prejudged because of how he was dressed?? Shame on you !! Or should I say Shame on you "SIR" lest you Flash your Badge/credentials on me for commenting on your shamefull post

    Now, now!

At least NJ was thinking of the M1icon carbine when it limited magazine capacity! In Kaliforniev, it is 10 rounds! That tosses out all the original M1 carbine magazines!

Actually , under the NJ "assualt weapon" law from the early 90's, the M-1 carbine is a banned gun.
