A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. For the record this is not a moneymaker, I hope just to break even, eventually, at $80/book plus shipping. In the USA shipping is $5.00 for media mail. I will accept PayPal, Zelle, MO and good old checks (and cash if you want to stop by for a tour!). CLICK BANNER to send me a PM for International pricing and shipping. Manufacturer of various vintage rifle scopes for the 1903 such as our M73G4 (reproduction of the Weaver 330C) and Malcolm 8X Gen II (Unertl reproduction). Several of our scopes are used in the CMP Vintage Sniper competition on top of 1903 rifles. Brian Dick ... Thanks Medic, I have herd of all kinds of oddities concerning Kamakazees. Such as finding remains weeks and months after the attack. One of my uncles was a Sailor on an LST and survived two attacks. One when the plane hit on a bounce and didn't expode, and one when two planes coming in for an attack veered off over the island (maybe had second thoughts?) He said that every ship and boat would have every gun firing at the incoming plane, that his LST had extra 50's mounted were they could, and they would weld stops on the sides so as not to swing into one of their other gun batteries. He was on one of the 50's and said he had the HMG bouncing off the stop but kept firing even though he couldn't hit the plane. That is how intense the moment was. He said they were totally exhausted after the battles.....Frank

Didn't anyone notice that the "machine gun" lodged in the Bofor's barrels ....Is a US 50 caliber machine gun?!!! It's upside down and missing it's spade grips and backplate, and somehow got separated from it's mount without damaging the ears for the T&E mechanism? Somehow I don't think that this is the MG from a Japaneseicon Kamikazi's aircraft?

I can only guess that to get the "FOD" in (or through) the 40mm flash hider, it was high velocity debris from a HE blast. Perhaps it was already stripped. OR it was replaced after the fact, once the excitement had died down and had already been rendered down partially.

Don't think an aircraft's velocity would have been anywhere near high enough.

    Debris in the Bofors

Well, however it got there.....it wasn't pleasant for someone! That would ruin any gunner's day. I once had an RPG to hit the Xenon searchlight on my tank in Nam....I only got a tiny piece of shrapnel in my thumb, but the searchlight sort of ceased to exist! TANKER
