How to block those "robo" phone calls.....

If you get those call where it rings 2, maybe 3 times and then they hang up,we all know they hang up before your answering machine takes the call so they won't be charged the toll,so set your answering machine to come on at the 1st. or 2nd. ring(1st. is better),that way they are immediately charged for a toll call, might take any where from one to four weeks for them to quit calling your number, just be sure to notify all the people you normally talk to as to what you are doing and that you'll answer the phone if they stay on the line,I set my answering machine last night so now I'll see what happens.

We've been getting alot of calls trying to sell us "extended warranty coverage" on our cars. We ask the caller if this is a "telemarketing call" (it is), to which they immediately answer that they are not a telemarketing company and the Government's Do Not Call list doesn't apply to them (it does). They also state that they are not trying to sell anything.

Supposedly, there is a "Do Not Call" list generated by the Federal Government several years ago. This list was suppose to stop telemarketing harrasment calls which none of these telemarketing companies say applies to them. The companies state in their opening lines that if you do not want to receive their calls, to dial a certain number. Dialing that number will promptly disconnect the call and put you back into the cycle. Talking to their reps doesn't help either, they simply hang up on you.

The calls seem to come in spurts - sometimes two or three calls a day, then nothing for two weeks. What I've done, if nothing else seems to work, is to tell their reps that I've recorded their number and will be turning them into the State's Attorneys Office. That seems to work.

    however,

In my neck of the woods, the caller I.D. shows 000-000-0000, so telling them I've turned them in does no good. I'll try the 1 ring trick....

Real simple for me. I get them all day long.

When I see one on my ID, I grab my phone, hit the external speaker button, turn my radio all the way up, set the phone against the speaker.

If that doesn't do it, I have a porn site ready to go on my computer, when they call I hit the ext speaker, set the phone next to the computer speaker, start the Moaning and Screaming. That usually stops them.

    If THAT doesn't get them......

In Canadaicon, the "do not call" list can be purchased by telemarketers - ostensibly so that they know who not to call. Bad guys also purchase the list, to get a list of numbers to call.

I just tell them that I would be very grateful if they could help me get a car as I am to poor to afford one. I have not received a return call for more that 6 months.

Just sound down and out and plead with them to help you get a car.

That car warranty bunch has ignored the do not call list for a long time. The fun part is they kept telling me my warranty was expiring on a car that was totalled early last year and by now has likely gone through the crusher. (I was the third car in a 7 car pile-up, everyone was stopped at a traffic light EXCEPT for the last car that didn't

The ones I REALLY hated were from what my caller ID showed coming from JAMAICA. You KNOW what information those bastards wanted!

    Car warranty

My state is prosecuting the car warranty scammers. I just have a cell phone and it has a handy "reject number" function that I employed after call number two. Never heard from them again.
