    Field Grade funny

I was able to visit the south store week before ast and peruse the racks there. One Garandicon caught my eye when I saw a bump on the windage knob side of the rear sight. It was a Lock Bar sight , the only one in the store that day as it turned out. The lock bar stood out about .1" from being flush and no matter how hard I tried, I could not screw it flush. I took it to the armorer and he could not seat it either, even with pliers. So, he tried to disassemble it. The lock bar was well staked on so it did not want to come off. He said it was a bad sight, would have to be replaced and the rifle set back. Since the main reason I was interested in the rifle was the sight, I asked he try again. The pliers finally got it past the stake and as he disassembled it, out came two tension springs! (Spare parts storage?) Everything went back together just fine like it is supposed to. The muzzle runs a 6.5 but the wear is very even, the muzzle round, not oblong and the crown is undamaged. The throat runs a 4. Even better, it managed a 4", 5-shot group at 100 yds with CMPicon Federal ammo.

Congrats on the lockbar find. I was down there in mid-June, and you're right; no lockbars to be seen. I did see some semi-cool bits; grooved handguard clip, IHC bolt, etc., but nothing came home with me. Glad you got a good one.
