Exclamation French M.A.S. 35 S Pistol Question Re: Magazine Release

I have a nearly new Frenchicon M.A.S. 35 S Pistole in 7.65 Long, that I borrowed from an N.V.A. Regular that after a short chat on a trail in Vietnam, no longer needed it. Question: WILL A M.A.S. 35 A MAGAZINE RELEASE ASSEMBLY [ALL 3 PARTS, BUTTON...SPRING...HOOK] WORK IN A 35 S MISSING ITS' MAGAZINE RELEASE?

2nd Question: DOES ANYONE HAVE A COMPLETE MAGAZINE RELEASE ASSEMBLY For Sale [ALL 3 PARTS, BUTTON...SPRING...HOOK] for a French M.A.S. 35 S Pistole IN 7.65 Long?????

I REALLY NEED SOME HELP HERE!!!! THANKS JERRY

Sorry, Jerry -- the answer is "No."

Despite some sources (mistakenly) describing the 1935-S as a "simplified" version of the 1935-A, the two pistols are similar in design but entirely different pistols with no parts in common. They were designed and made by two different companies to Frenchicon military requirements, the 1935-A by SACM, and the 1935-S by MAS, with most post-WWII 1935-S manufacturing done by MAC (with much smaller numbers made by SAGEM and MAT) while MAS concentrated on producing rifles and submachine guns for the war in IndoChina.

You might try contacting some of the members of the French Firearms forum on Gunboard.com. They have been able to provide some otherwise very difficult to find parts for the 1935 pistols at reasonable cost; in some cases French members have mailed parts to the US from France.

BTW, excellent references on these pistols (and the model 1950, which was essentially a 1935-S beefed up for 9mm) is The French 1935 Pistols: A Concise History, by Eugene Medlin and Colin Doane, and French Service Handguns 1858-2004 by Eugene Medlin and Jean Huon.

    Jerry --

It appears that someone is in the process of selling a 1935-S to be parted out on another firearms forum -- you may want to see if you can get the parts you need through that. That 1935-S is made by MAT rather than MAS, but that shouldn't present a problem.

Wasnt the M.A.S. mle 35 the mother of the Swissicon SIG P210? If so parts of them could fit.

    Regards
