AM Hammer

Anyone know who produced hammers marked "AM"? I have one on my Inland and assume it is a replacement on rebuild. Reisch does not mention it in his listings. Just curious. THX SKIP

There was a AMB hammer made by Art Metal Works in Hartford, Conn. for IBM.

JimF4M1s- Just checked the hammer again. It's a good, solid, clear strike. My initial thought was the same as yours "AMB". Hoping someone else might have a clue. THX SKIP

Jim: I need some information on Art Metal Works. Where did you find the address in Connecticut.

My records show the company was located in Newark, NJ. Usually if there is an office in one location and manufacturing in another, there will be a note.

Made by Art Metal Works as a replacement part, so just "AM" without a prime contractor code. Just as handguards made by Lumb Woodworking Co. for IBM are marked "LW-B", but replacement handguards made by Lumb Woodworking Co. are marked just "LW".

Milsurp-THX for the info on Art Metal. I actually found AM listed in Reisch bk 5 pg 180 on Rebuild parts about 20 minutes ago. Appreciate all who hepled. THX Skip

Hey Skip,

That carbine you looked at last week at Ed's has an Inland operating slide not a Winchester. The W on the bottom is an inspection mark not a manufacturer's code. Inside was the underlined PI.

BrianQ- I never even gave it a second look. Just assumed it was a Winchester.Thought about trading my Winchester trigger housing group w/ Ed, but decided the "W" was worth more to keep it.THX Skip

You are correct, Newark, N.J for (AMB) Art Metal Works. (GMB) Gray Mfg. Co. was Hartford, Conn. It was the next line and my eye must have dropped. I hate bifocals. Sorry.

OK thanks. Many WWII producers had more than one location. When one runs into that situation, it makes research more of a challenge.
