Question Mint Condition Collector Grade Garand (CSP WTS Forums)

I'm not a Granad collector, but I'm curious....

Isn't this a LOT of money for this piece, or have they gone up that much?

    Regards,
    Badger

I know money's tight, but I can't believe someone out there hasn't grabbed my CMPicon Collector Grade Garand yet. There's no way I'd be selling it if I didn't need the money!

This SA #54761xx is in absolute mint condition, and comes with all CMP paperwork, including data sheet, in the original box. Entire rifle, from wood to buttplate looks new, and virtually unfired. It's not been fired since I've had it.

I know the price is a bit high, but this one will be well worth it to the individual who wants the best in a true collectible. Collector Grade Garands are hard enough to find in the first place, and nearly impossible to find in this condition. CMP hasn't had any of these for some time, and the likelihood of any more coming down the pipe is nearly zero. I doubt you'll find a nicer CG Garand than this one.

Price reduced to $2,300.00 + Shipping & Insurance

    Yep it's a bit high

Those collectors from the CMPicon are greek returns (nothing wrong with that), but that seller likely paid $1400 for that rifle. I have one from a few years ago. They are quite nice and I hope they do appreciate to that level. But I would think they could be had for under $2000. JMO.

    Highly optimistic

Korean War era SA CG's are the most common. Their existence is not widely known outside the collecting community, & that has kept the price from rising to where it should be. Most have some op rod/sight damage to the stocks from storage in crates; you should be able to buy them in the $1,000-1,500 range. One with a pristine stock could bring several hundred $ more; his photos aren't good enough for me to tell the exact condition. For $2,300, I would expect one of the new-in-the-wrap Greek-return CG's that CMPicon sold.

Doug, that is probably the most beautiful post war Garandicon I've seen but not for that money. For that, $1600.00 and that is pushing it.

Yes it is a lot of money for this rifle. It is not a Korean era rifle but one of the last ones made, which is a good thing. However with the Greeek returns some of which were never opened or fired, the price is about a $1000. over priced. Like the above poster said you can get one for I believe thirteen or fourteen hundred at CMPicon now. Also their are small parts on some of them which are not SA, but are orginal to the Garandicon then built. Some guys have returned them to CMP because of this, but if you read GCAicon journal there is an article on which parts are sometimes not SA. We often damage orginal Garands due to our ignorance, as not everything is known about them yet. Duff's Post WWII book is not out yet to begin yet and even when it will likely be incorrect in some small ways. Garands will come into their own when the CMP runs out of them, then the prices will go up and then level out.
