    Question C Stocks

I have seen the C stocks from Sarco, Gun Parts, and the CMPicon are they from the same stockmaker?? I've read the good and the bad on them all, I'm still undesided on where too pick one up, price wise there almost the same. Who of the 3 is the better stock, I know there is some wood working needed but who has had the better/best fit from the start. And lastly is the conture more prewar(slim) or post war(fat) or a combo of the two? Rifle is a Springfield Armory 1903 1.24m with a late SA 43/44 barrel date.

I have heard Sarco and Gun Parts are Italianicon. CMPicon and Boyds are the same. I have 2 of the new Boyds "C" stocks and they are very good indeed. Buy American, this time.

Dupage has an excellent prewar slim style C stock with cross-bolts and bushing for $150.00. and it's a drop-in fit. At least mine did..

Dupage, Boyd's and CMPicon are the same. Made by Boyd's. All well done and nice.

DuPage worked a business arrangement with Boyd's to drastically improve the quality of their M1903 stocks. DuPage also worked a business arrangement with the CMPicon to sell their high quality Boyd-made stocks.

I recommend that you buy a stock (1) from the CMP or, (2) directly from DuPage to ensure that you're getting the best quality.

I agree with John -- Boyd stocks (as bought from Boyds) seem to vary greatly in QC from near drop-in to semi-finished hunks of wood which are poorly dimensioned.

Mike Kokolus has a nice C-stock in the pre-WW2 pattern.

My Sarco was a drop in....

and I'd get another. It's good to hear that Boyd's has cleaned up their act for Dupage and CMPicon. Every stock I've gotten from Boyd's (M1icon carbine, 1903 C stock, Marlin lever action) has been grossly oversized, required massive inletting work, and all the holes drilled in the wrong places. Call me stupid for trying three times. Beautiful wood, poor execution.

The Dupage, CMP situation sounds like buying Taiwan made shop tools. If you buy them from an importer, they're usually crap. If you buy them from an American company, they're usually good because they'll have a company rep in the Taiwan factory pounding on quality control.

If I need another stock, I'd like to try one from CMP and get their stamp. The Sarco stock was good, though. Mine dropped in, beautiful fit especially on the lug. I'm never buying directly from Boyd's again, for any rifle. You're better off buying a raw blank and starting from scratch.
