Condition nearly excellent...no cartouche.
No rust pitting etc.. Normal wear and dings for a 100 year gun.
Bore is good. Have shot it occasionally.

This might be an excellent buying value if you're a collector of U.S. pieces. If authentic, it would sell for a LOT more in the U.S. For whatever reason, they don't seem to be as popular with collectors up here in Canada.

I've asked the seller to provide the serial number to help validate authenticity from Brophy's book. The one in the Milsurp Knowledge Library is serial # 341336 and was manufactured by Springfield in 1901.

Besides the "c" stamped on the sides of the sight and sight base, I also asked the sller if the rear sight has the "c" on top, as per the example from the one shown below in the Milsurp Knowledge Library ?

Notice the "c" on top of the sight, which is correct.

You mean the front sight itself, not sight hood. There were no sight hoods on these carbines, but a carbine front sight marked with a "c" is rare. I wonder why he's selling it separately from the rifle, or perhaps it's simply something extra he has that was never with the rifle in the first place.

Regardless, it's a lovely piece and someone bought it already. I hope they take care of her...

He has two more carbines. When I asked if he had any extras to sell ie brass, dies, slings etc., he said he wanted to keep most of that to go with the other guns but he had a front sight hood, marked "c" that he would send along for a bunch more dough. LOL However, the likelyhood of my misunderstanding the terminology is pretty good, I must admit so perhaps I bought a front site for that price and not just a hood.LOL It all should arrive in a wk. so we will clear this little mystery up. And yes I will be taking very good care of her with help from the info I gleen from, especially this site!

Krag showed up! Snap on sight hood as advertized.I'll have to take pics (like that'll happin')LOL. Fella shipped her with the bolt out and I, for the life'o'me, cannot get it to go back in. Oh well, any body wanna buy a useless krag. Cheap.(with site hood included)LOL
