Remington M1917/1913 bayonet and scabbard, before and after...

    Hey guys,

Here are some before and after photos of the "New" Remington M1917/1913 bayonet and scabbard.

The scabbard metal needed a little more manly treatment beyond a nylon brush and #0000 steel wool. Brass brush with combo of Hoppe's and Break free did the trick with no harm. There is no "Browning" left on the scabbard metal but it cleaned up nice. The ferrule is corroded but I knew that when I bought the pair. It's ok.

Regardless of what the blade looks like in the photos, it is only stained and has no rust, all of the original factory polishing and sharpening marks are present. Only has four or five tiny nicks on the edge. Very nice.

    Here are the photos.

    Death to tyrants,

    Thanks Gunner,

Congratulations on becoming a new "Really Senior Member".

I like my Tiger Balm. The bayonet smells better than most.

Yea, a Megalodon is a bad idea for a pet in your pool. They eat the kids.
Probably a good thing for us they are extinct.

Hope you find a good bayonet...read that a good leather scabbard is harder to find than the blade. The prices here are rising, just like the rifle prices.

Are there restrictions in Bavaria for owning bayonets? Do you have to have a license? Can you have a bayonet shipped from the U.S. to Bavaria? There are a few good sets being offered on the inet in the U.S., but they are not cheap. Seems like the M1917 rifles and bayonets are in heavy demand right now.

Think I will do a little more cleaning on my bayonet hilt and scabbard tonight and then I am done.

    Death to rust and tyrants,

As the centennial of WWI gets closer, those prices are only going to go higher!

    Hey Dan,

Think you are right. Watch the prices go crazy if someone in Hollywood gets the bright idea to make a film about the Marines at Belleau Wood.

Swore that "Saving Private Ryan" would send prices soaring for U.S. WWII gear and firearms after I saw it. Proved true. "Band of Brothers" didn't help prices either. Two thousand dollar Carbines? And they sell...sometimes.

Going prices for M1917 rifles are nearly par now with '03's. And bayonets are just gettin' higher seems everyday.

Death to higher prices for the things we like...and "Need",

    LB

    Hi Lancebear,

Thank you for the congrats. It is very interresting to be here and read the threads and having fun in the conversation with some fine guy`s
There are no realy important regulations for having bayonets. It is only forbidden to carry them with you out of your home. The prices here also getting higher. I purchased my M1917 last year for around 300$ and now you pay for bader ones over 1200$. Sometimes a megalodon isnt so wrong for idiots of neighbours and ....

    Regards

The proper 5 round stripper clips are around $4 each. Check out:
Scott Duff Publications & Historic Martial Arms: M1 Garand, M1 Carbine, M1903, Krag, M1911A1
Go to "Accouterments" then "Collectible Stuff" - left side of opening page.

They might ship to Bavaria. Send'em an email.
