A really long shot.....serial number question

I've seen other folks ask this so I know this is such a long shot and I probably have a better chance to hit the lottery but here goes...Does anyone out there have info/whereabouts of Springfield garand serial number 1457321 ? My dad had this one while in the Marines during WW2 and I would love to locate it.

I live in a dream world too. I wish I could find 2792501 because I used it in ITR at Camp Geiger. It was in bad shape then, probably scrapped a long time ago.

Shamrocks, a few years ago, maybe 2006? I was at Perry for the matches. and every day, for a week, I went through the CMPicon store looking for diamonds in the rough. at that time they had a boat load of wood-less dane's on shelves, I think they $265. at the time. I must have looked at hundreds of them. all most all were 1.3 or 1.4 range. I thought it was odd so many in the same range. so don't give up, I know there is a lot of 1.4's out there, I saw them. Good Luck.

CMPicon will check if they have or had it for $25. GCAicon just found one for a Korean War vet.

Records of what troopie was issued which rifle do not exist. They were local unit records that were not kept. You're da would not have had the same rifle during his entire service time anyway.

CMPicon will run the number for $25, but they're backed up.
There's a guy on the CMP forums that can tell you if it was scrapped or what not, I don't recall who though.

    Custody Cards

I had several M-1's and M-14s issued in Army ROTC, high school and college. We were always required to learn the serial number of "our" rifle. Including the M-14 I had for 40 days and 40 nights at Fort Sill 39 years ago this month, I could not tell you a one of them, today. However when I was a "guest" Marine (LT DC USNR) I was issued custody cards for my M-16 and two .45's I had at two different times from different organizations. Also, at least with Marines, rifle serial numbers were written into scorebooks. I still have my USMC custody cards for those weapons. However when I drew a match M-14 for the 3rd Marine Division matches they just wrote it down. So, an individual, particularly a Marine, may have very good information RE the rifle he had. Brings up a question: Did the Army have custody cards?
