If you can't view the advertisement, it's probably due to the fact that you have to subscribe to the EE (Equipment Exchange) forums on CGN, in order to view them.

    Seller says:

For sale is a minty sniper rifle, all matching and correct. Gun is dated 1945 and carries a MK. 3 scope. Included is a transit case, leather scope cover, web type scope case, scope instructions. Great bore.

Shoots CDN. 1950 dated .303 surplus ammo with great accuracy.

If there is something else you want to see which is not included in the pictures then please just let us know. We'll send additional pictures but let us know if you high speed or dial up.

Asking 3700.00 or best offer. Edit: SPF several times over, thanks for all the replys! Will get back to everyone after the long weekend. Enjoy.

    Thanks.
The only thing you can't see in the pics is the left side butt tang, which should have the rifle serial number on it and "TR". There should also be a "T" up on the receiver left side, as well as an "S51" (Holland and Holland) stamped in the wood under the butt. Note, there's no period sling with it.

Still, I think the pricing is reasonable in today's market for an "all correct" example. Check the Englandicon MKLicon entry for a 1944 Enfield No.4 Mk1(T) Sniper Rifle, to see an all correct example with markings on this type of sniper rifle.

    Regards,
    Badger

Is it just me, or does the serial on the stock appear to end in a "5", while the scope's ends in "3"?

    Clearer pictures would be nice.

Well, you can see the seriffed receiver "T" in on the receiver side under the scope bracket in the 5th picture.

I'd want to see the buttsocket markings and the H&H markings on the butt before shelling out though.

It's probably just his photos and camera limitations, but what's with the weird look to the receiver finish? It comes across as almost spray-paint looking, or parkerizing left really oily. It doesn;t look much like blue or suncorite...?

Could be the camera/lighting; does look odd though. Chap seems to be in Ontario. If I were interested, a drive over for a personal examination would be worthwhile on a purchase like this.

    You're right...

The blurry wood pic looks like it ends in "5" and the scope ends in "3"...

That should be a "3" on the wood. Maybe it is but the pic is just making it look wrong... not sure.

That's legit, Brit snipers had a unique finish which has been described as a "textured parkerizing" (I cannot recall the official name right now).

Often it has been covered by successive coats of suncorite, or worn off.

I'm going to see and hopefully buy this rifle and kit. Apart from printing, rereading, making notes to take with me of all the above info, anybody got any further advice? The sellers profile looks fine. The advice that " A mint sniper is an oxymoron" is the part that's scarin' me cause the seller is claiming it's "minty"
Any help would be a help

You've heard a lot of good advice in this thread so far ....

I'd ask if he has the proper "sling" for it and if not, you could look for one of those. It will cost $100-$150 for a period original, so maybe you can get him to discount it according, so you can apply it towards buying the sling.

Also make sure the rifle serial number is stamped in the wood underneath the forestock, up near the barrel.

Minty is a bad term for old guns, but I think he's basically saying that it's in about as good a shape as one will ever see for a rifle from this period. I've seen a lot of these 1945 ones and they all in great shape, most likely never saw service. It looks like it's in good shape to me and take a barrel light to inspect the barrel inside. It should be bright, shiny and the grooves well defined. For one of these 1945's, I'd be surprised if it wasn't.

I'd pay $3500 in a heartbeat for it and even at $3700 given the lack of these I've seen in Canadaicon in as good a shape, I'd even spend the $3700 for her, again, assuming she's all correct. If you can get an "inspection and return period" for her, I'd be happy to have an up close look for you.

    Regards,
    Badger

OK, so the serial # is correct, it's a 3 not a 5. All the # seem to match up. H&H "S51" at bottom of hand grip. "S" front right, behind reciever ring. "T" and "TR" where they should be. Has the angular, front of the mag. sling swivel. Has # under the fore stock. All screws are undamaged and the ones on the sights are staked in line with the screw slots. Sight is clear and the two horizontal and one vertical lines seem OK. The two knobs turn and make little clicking sounds that seem normal. The box and the can and the papers all seem real but who cares, I can't take my eyes off this rifle.LOL I have a reasonable length of time to return it. (ya, pry it from my ...) LOL
