Refinished Stocks
I worked on this batch for a couple months off and on. Most of the time spent getting 50+ hand guards finished. Stock metal cleaned and butt plates reparked.
From top to bottom,
Inland Type III
NPM Type II cut down to Type III
Underwood Type II.....needed major repairs
Inland Type II
Winchester Type III
Winchester Long Channel Type III
Winchester Type III
Inland Type III
Inland Type III
S'G' Type II

I hate to start something but I only use RLO. I don't "refinish" just put it on cleaned stocks. You don't have to steel wool it I use one coat 50-50 thined with turpintine or mineral sprits. And one coat of RLO. I don't like the hard feel you get from BLO. Have you ever just used RLO?

Wow! you really did a great job on them Charlie.
I have a couple of stocks that Im wanting to do something with, well actually just one and the other Im on the fence about. My Rock-ola stock really needs to be cleaned good and oiled up really good, but I have a nice Type 2 inland that is still high wood and has no rebuild marks on it and very few dings and such on it, it really is a pretty stock, but it has so much build up of linseed oil it actually has some thinned spots from handling, and some chips (of the dried oil not the wood) that hurts it looks .But heres the thing, it has a beautifull cherry reddish color to it because of the aged oil that has been rubbed onto the stock over its lifetime. Its has so much that the ordinance wheel is visible but you cant feel it because of the built up linseed oil or whatever was used on it over the years. I am really confused, the biggest part of me just thinks I should leave it as is,the color is really beautifull but I also know that if I were to take off all the oil and grime and put linseed of tung oil on it it would look great too. I am holding off untill I can reach a decision that I can live with,In the case of my stock, part of me thinks that removing the oil and sweat etc thats on it would be a huge mistake on my part, it really does give it character and it is part of the stocks history too. Im sorry I dont mean to hijack the thread, its just that Charlies beautifull work on his stocks got me to thinking. Should I start a different thread?
Maybe I should just leave it, UGH!!! What do you all think?

Oh, Bubba-7....
I hope you didn't open up a can of linseed worms.....
(I can't go though this again)

You're correct Bubba-7 --
BLO doesn't work at all. Not at all. (Experience)
It leaves a 'shiny' hard finish unlike any military finish.
