    Remington 870 MK I

I picked up a Remington 870 Wingmaster at a recent show. Need to post pics, but am out of town. It has the Remington bayonet lug, wood police stocks, swivel slings, 20" cyl. barrel with the bead on the bayonet lug. Original bead was removed from the barrel and hole had been filled in. Basically appears to be set up like the 870 MK 1. Also had a solid black finish (including the bolt) - not parkerized or blued. No military marks anywhere that I could find. According to the barrel, the shotgun was made in 1973. Anyone have any idea if this could be a legitimate 870 Mk 1? Thanks!

Can you give us an idea of the serial number including the letter prefix? But I doubt you have an original 870 Mark I.

The bayo adaptors with the bead sight were made by Remington for the commercial market including law enforcement. Apparently, some branches of the Military did purchase these and put them on 870 riot guns.

Measure the length of the barrel. Mark I barrels are about an inch longer than the 20 inch riot barrels. And the Mark I barrels are modified choke marked.

It is a 20" cyl. marked barrel. Serial number: S956735V. Probably not the real deal, but at a minimum, I picked up a decent 870 for a good price. Thanks for the reply.

Mk1's had a 21 inch bbl with the front sight brazed onto the bbl and the bayo lug went over and around the sight.

Sorry it has taken so long with the pics. I am sure this was not an original military shotgun, but it was a good price, and it is a good representational piece. Called Remington and they said it was built in 1966.
