hornady 168 loads at garand match

How did these work in the Garands.Anyone know what was use in these loads& spec's.

WHat powder and case you using?

IMR4895 is the powder originally used to load, have used both BL-C2 & win 748. Some are using RE15, but I haven't.

Get a good manual all follow it both Hornady & Sierra have loads for M1.
I prefer you work up own.

Do adjust sizer to give a barely visual axial motion of bolt when closed on a case. This will give best case life.

Using RCBS X dies will give you longer case life. Garands are hard on brass. Varget runs very well in my Garand.

I have had good luck with 56 grains of any 4350 in bolt guns and 46 or perhaps 47 grains of 4895 in M1.

Experiment with the load if using 4895, there is quite a difference in burn rate of surplus powder, so work up the load to see how it shoots in your particular rifle.

I use 46 grains of IMR 4895 with the Hornaday 168. My garand loves it and I like the results.

4350 is an excellant powder for bolt action rifles but a very poor powder for the Garand.The port pressure with a powder as slow as 4350 would in all likelyhood bend the op rod over a very short time.Will
