    OT P38/P1 Walther Help

I know there is someone on here that answers P38 questions and we can take it to PM if thats better.
I had a customer pull the slide off a P1 here in the store, slide it back on and the salesman put it back in the case. I just tried to show it and went to clear it before handing it to the customer. The slide and barrel will only move about 1/8th of a inch, hammer will not move, takedown will not move, decocker will not move, trigger will not pull thru. Wanted to ask before I started taking pins out and mess things up. Thanks Bill

Hi Bill, seems to be a problem after wrong reassemble. We had this often in the army. Most time a problem with the " Riegelstück" the bar?
It is the part 3 in the exploding view. the links below are eventually helpful.

Hi Bill, i had a phone call with our army sergeant who was reponsible for our guns( not an armourer ). He said that our problem mostly was the wrong position of the locking block retainer spring after reassemble ( ...sometimes we forgot or lost it when we reassembled it with closed eyes ). If the spring is not in the pistol it should help to turn it upside down that the locking block can fall down and dissasemble it. That was our problem but i dont know if this helps you. The spring is marked on the pic. Also possible is a problem with the safety catch but i am not an expert on this pistol.

    Regards

Hi Bill, no problem hope that helps eventually. Heard that the bigger problem is, when it is wrong reassembled and the safety catch was in a wrong position. The P1 we had in the army was not my favorite pistol, they were not very accurate. We said the most dangerous thing with this pistol is, to throw it at the enemys head, because it is sure that you wanna hit him by this way. The P8 is the better one.

    Regards

    Gunner
