    30-40 Winchester Musket coolness

Not mine, but had to play with the camera! Something else at the gunstore/clubhouse to lust after!

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. What's the asking price? I ran across one marked the same way a few years back in a pawn shop in Boosier City.LA. It was missing the front band and back sight , but was only $600 IIRC.

    Jmoore, list:

This is kind of a historic weapon, or might be. The CO Naional Guard was carrying these when they were called out to put down the Ludlow strike. April 20, 1914, they fired into the tent city (1200 miners and their families had ben evicted from compny housing). At least 20 were killed, including women and children who had taken shelter in a dugout.

I have had chances to buy CO National Guard Winchesters before, took a pass. A fine weapon with a sad history.

I thought it was was the CO National Guard that was involved in the miner's strike but couldn't remember the details. Something seen once in passing on the ever so "accurate" History Channel.

It shoots OK, I didn't try it but was spotting for the seller. Its rather more than $600, though! If it was cheap I'd take it myself, however, did put a 30-40 cal. 1899 Lee on lay away! (Unfortunately, all the "smallbore" Lees have crappy bores that are in the recent big pile o' cool rifles that came into the gustore I haunt.)
