    1964 Colt AR15

I have an opportunity to buy a 1964 Colt AR15. Excellent condition, a few hundred rounds through it, then put away. No forward assist of course. He is asking $1600, any thoughts?

Eh, not a great deal, but if its really "correct" not horrible, either. What, if any, early features does it have? I.E. bolt carrier, barrel, flash hider, pin ends, buffer, etc. (For some reason, early rifles seem to often have been messed with over the years, possibly because many went to P.D.'s and such.)

I am not an AR guy. I collect M1icon Carbines. I did do three tours in Viet Nam. First tour I had an M-1 Carbine, second I had an M-16 without forward assist that jammed when it got dirty, third an M-79 as backup weapons on our boats. The boats had .50 cal's (4). I just thought this would be nice to add to my collection.

An 80 year old died and had 6 safes in his garage. The son could not open them and had a safe company do it.

Inside were some mint in the case 45 acp's (two boxes of 20). Too many other items to list. But also 2 Colt AR-15's. This is one of them. It reminded me of the one I carried. Triangular for grip, no forward assist or shell deflector, the beefed up three prong flash suppressor.

It is near mint condition and still had the tag $195 with it. The price $1600, was higher then I had seen some listed for. But they were not in my state. I didn't mention I live in Calif. at least till I retire.

Don't know if you can even own it on that configuration in the People's Republic of Kalifornia!

My Uncle lives in your area, Cusetta, 25 miles south of Columbus. 38 years Army, maybe he could hold it till I move.

IMHO, that's not a bad price at all depending how original it is and the condition of said rifle. Lately, these have been going for $3000+ on gunbroker. Here is a link to a great site that helped me build my XM16E1/603 clone: Retro Black Rifle www.retroblackrifle.com

Scroll down on the left margin to the civilian rifle area and click on it. It will give you links that will show you what parts are proper for the serial number range along with cool pics.
