    EARLY Springfield Stock Bolt ??'s

Did the "Early" 1903 Springfield "Stock Bolts" ever have the left side bolt head "slotted" for a standard screwdriver? Circa 1922 to 1930 maybe??
I'm looking in 'Brophy' but haven't found anything yet.

No, they weren't slotted. At least, I have never seen one, except in your pic.

I have no recollection of having seen stocks with slotted stock bolts that I thought were original.

The right hand side you show is normal. What is called a "nut" has 2 slots for a "spanner" to fit. The "bolts" ,which go in from the left side, are smooth headed and would not have a slot of any kind.

The slotted nuts (versus bolts) are normal. It is how the assembly is tightened. I didn't mean to give the impression that the bolt was slotted.

Thanks for the clarification. I felt confident the (Spanner style) nuts are authentic. Per my OP I've never seen slotted Bolt heads before. Just how these slotted bolts came to be on the stock I'm currently researching is another question.

I'm doing some research on my stock as it presents a number of other yet un-resolved questions to my untrained eye.

    .. back atcha -stay safe!!
