Talking My baby has a new suit!

Got the SA pot belLy mounted on my Underwood. It was pretty well BLOicon finished, so I just did a fresh up coat of BLOicon/Mineral Spirits two nights ago. Went on perfect, and the recoil lug mounted perfect where there was no barrel deflection in any direction except lifting the barreled action slightly in the channel to slide the Type 3 Barrel band assembly on. Cleaned up a NOS cosmo coated buttplate I had (I have no idea the make, as I an't tell the, apart!). Since I replaced the stock, I replaced the flip safety with an "EW" type three I have that has been kicking around in my parts since I don't know when. I prefer the push safety. The flip is in a baggie with the NPM stock and handguard in a gun sock in the safe.

I love the feel of the pot belly!

I apologize for the pics. The whether is lousy and my old camera takes terrible low-light pics.

    Thanks

Thank you gentlemen. I like it. At least when I start shooting matches in the spring, I won't be cringing if the stock gets dinged up in the rack at the range. I really do prefer the feel of the pot belly, it just feels a little more substantial. All but a few of my carbines in the last 25 years have been in Type V stocks.

Rangemaster, Great looking stock and carbine. I do have 3 questions...

    1) Love the way the grain looks. Was the grain that pronounced in that wood or did you have to use dye to highlight it? (Nothing wrong with a blonde getting highlights)

    2) Where did you manage to find that as a replacement stock? (I would like to repeat your project)

    3) most important question - Why didn't you buy me on when you got yours?

    Hi!

Ed, I didn't know you wanted one, hehe!

I did nothing to highlight the grain. It came in excellent shape and appeared to have an old finish of layers of BLOicon. I just did a fresh-up coat of 50/50 BLOicon and mineral spirits. It absorbed very little, so it was still well sealed. I'm not a wood guy, so I don't know if it is dark birch (probably) or light walnut, but it is dang hard wood. Harder than my NPM stock! The finish is actually nicer than the pictures show. When I get something other than grungy, overcast skies, I will take some daylight high res pictures. My good camera died (actually I dropped it) so I only have my older digital, and its low light and flash pictures suck.

As to where I got it, I got lucky. The guy had one without metal, which I didn't need as I had extra stuff kicking around. He had some more expensive with metal. I'll pm you his email address.

    Thanks

I have to admit that it is the prettiest Type V I ever had. I had one that was a very dark walnut (almost like black walnut) but it was so dark it looked black and you could not see the grain. This one is not too light, not too dark. Accents off the metal well. I am pleased!

When I heft this, it makes me think I should get ready to up Pork Chop Hill with Gregory Peck!
