I have a Winchester 75 U.S. marked. After reading a couple of posts on this site I have picked up some more information on the markings. My rifle has the P stamped on the front of the pistol grip. It also has an AA and an AN stamped in the stock on the right side. The rear peep is correct and the front is the blade sight described in the threads. My rifle has a target scope that is not marked but looks to be a Winchester A5. The bases are wider than a Unertl base and there are no knotches to lock the mounts to the base for recoil. The scope mounts match the scope. Can anyone tell me if the scope and rifle were used as a unit in the military. Thanks

Sorry to say I think you will find out that Military didn't use any scopes for training the troops. The scope was probaly put after the war by a smallbore shooter. Cherish you US Trainer as they are great guns.

I have several 75s that appear to have been used as military trainers. None have provisions for a scope. How is your rifle "US marked"?. I have seen one late Model 75 with markings on the barrel, wish I had bought it.

You state there where markings on the barrel. The leading experts on Win 75 Military state that none of the Win 75 Military rifles are stamped US Property. I have seen three stamped US Property and they claim all three where fakes. Interesting what the one had stamped on it.

Sorry if i misled you there are no markings on the bbl except the rockwell mark just ahead of the action

I have studied these rifles and have good reason to believe there was more than one contract. The rifle I examined (and wish I had bought) looked legit.

I have a chance at one of these right now; it's a surplus piece that has a parkerized finish, blade front and lyman peep rear sights, has cartouches (I'd have to look at it to get specifics on which ones), and has the magazine which is in excellent condition. Guy said he'd let me have it for $250. Good deal?

Got it. The gentleman even gave me a second magazine for it, an original Winchester replacement mag. Serial number 24xxx. I noticed in Michael Raborn's earlier post that he said his don't have provision for mounting a scope; this one is drilled and tapped and has plug screws installed. A gunsmith I asked about it said all 52's and 75's were so equipped. The cartouches are very hard to read, but it has some vestigial remnants of them.
