    7.62x54R Results - Finn M39

Sierra 174 .311 MK over 52 gr of IMR 4350, Win 7.62x54R neck sized, was reasonably accurate, within 6 in at 200 yd. No pressure signs, will try 53 gr load next as that was recommended to me. Same bullet and case over 43.5 gr of IMR 4895 was quite accurate, on par with Bulgarian Yellow Tip Heavy Ball 1955 surplus that shoots very well and consistently. Both reloads had OAL about 2.90, seated just enough for case to grip the bullet reasonably.

Tried some Lapua 7.62x53R cases with the same bullet, 44.5 gr of Varget, and it shot all over the map, the case is about 2/100 shorter than my 54R, not sure if it makes a difference, will try it with other powder later on.

Finding most bullets for this caliber scarce, cheaper to get surplus ammo.

Might try 40 gr. of 4895 with 174 gr. SMK. Not sure what the results with a .308 SMK, but that is what I shoot. I think results depend of the particular barrel.

Hi! I'm new on here and just read your comment re Lapua brass. We use Lapua brass in the Dragurnov with a 155 grain Lapua head. COL 75.5 mm 2.972 inch. It's hellish expensive ammo but the results are extremely good. Maybe a sierra 155 grain 308 would give better results?

We had good results with the 180.grs S&B FMJBT 2909 and the VV N140 with 45.4grs. Gives results from 2" at 100 yards.

    Regards
