Well, finally get the $$$$$ and paperwork together to get a second carbine, this one from CMP. (I know, two carbines does not a collector make!) I would have liked an Inland Service grade, but they are gone, so I am settling on a rack grade Inland. I want an Inland because, as I have said before, it is what my Dad carried on Iwo Jima.

There are some nice assorted Inlands out there on GB, Blue Sky's, etc, but you don't know where they have been. There is just something about getting one from CMP. It has a history, sort of, and it is coming from the same government that rushed them into production in this nations time of need. I suppose it is just a sense of legitimacy.

I do hope I have better luck than I did when I got a CMP Garand (back when it was called DCM). it was so shot out, you couldn't hit a beer can at 25 yards!

Most of the guy on the CMP forum seem happy with their Inland rackers. Here's hoping. I know I won't have early features, but a flat bolt and GI stock would be nice. I have my Underwood for a tack driver (in carbine terms) for matches. This one is more "for my Dad" who has passed away.

Yes, but several days prior! Several of us tried shooting it, including a guy who did DCM matches. It had "minute of milk jug" accuracy! It was pretty dreadful; a mixmaster with mismatched ugly wood, pitted bore. back then I only paid about $160 or 200 (something like that) so I was able to get my money from a re-enactor. It is one thing if it kicks like a mule and smashes your thumb, if it at least shoots decent.

Hopefully I will fare better this time.

Well, I hear all these guys complaining that the Carbines they are receiving from CMP have blued barrels, purple trigger housings and have germany police organization stamps on the receivers.... What's up with that?????


RM, I am sure you will get a great one on the luck of the draw, just don't forget the traditional sticky note on the order form if there is any special accomidation you are looking for. And of course we know you will post pics as soon as you get it! Good luck!

well, sent order for Inland racker, application, paperwork, and postal money order for $441.95 by priority mail. Instead of a sticky, I used a red pen to write on the order page that my dad carried an Inland on Iwo and Okinawa, and I hope for a flat bolt, Inland barrel, and GI stock. I said ugly is OK, I can clean it up.

Here's hoping!!!!!!!!! Even a mixmaster is OK, because my Underwood has Inland trigger guard, hammer, sear and mag catch, and if it is a late Inland, I have an Inland round bolt.

I haven't heard much belly aching about the carbines, just a couple cracked bolts and chambers that they took care of for the folks.

Oh wait I have 3 myself, there nice guns, 2 came thru kinda ugly some refinished ww2 stocks with matching handguards prettied them up.
The yellow sticky notes work, good luck I am sure you'll be happy.
