    Project Complete

The mount arrived yesterday from the CMPicon and I was able to complete my project. Unfortunately, I will probably not make it to the range until after the first of the year!!

The kit as delivered by the CMP:

The mount on the M1icon (5.9M SA with an LMR barrel):

    The completed project:

This is the first scope I have put on any rifle so any comments about scope placement, ring spacing, etc. are welcome.

I built a scout with one of those mounts on a 7.62 Garandicon. I used a Burris 10X EER which is no longer available on the Garand. The eyepiece of the scope was over the receiver ring. I built another scout on Mauser 98 with the Leupold scout scope like yours and the eyepiece was over the receiver ring as well. I think you will find you have to move yours back a bit to be comfortable. That Garand shot like a house on fire off a bipod. Never had a semi-auto return to point of aim so quickly after a shot as that rifle. If the shooter were served clips and loaded by an "A gunner", and never had to take his eye from the scope, he could keep up a very high rate of accurate long range fire.

Well, you went and made me get back on the M1icon "scout" project again. The Amegaranges (CMPicon) mount is higher than remembered. Its gonna be tough to have an ideal cheek weld for both iron and optics at the same time. I've got a hopelessly Bubba'd stock that might do for some experimentation.

Waiting on your range report, AlReiter!

    They are making...

...lace on cheek pads that have the paddong over the top rather than on the side. If you are using a non-collector buttstock , you can drill two holes in the top and add a chunk of wood , kind of like a head rest on a car seat. Just unplug it when you switch to irons.

This is the cheek pad I'm looking at (the 3/4" high version):

Waiting for it to warm up a bit before I run over to Cabela's and check it out!! Planning on taking the stock with me to see how it fits.

Went and shot mine Friday (a nice Harrington and Springfield) (only -6 degrees C at the range early in the morning) and it did OK as compared to a standard rifle, but a stalking rifle it's not! Weight is rather too far forward. Thinking about hogging off some sizable chunks of the mount and putting a "micro" reddot on- Wish I had some more of the Parrs rear sight scope mounting things. They seem to have vanished.

Got the cheek pad I referenced above and put it on the stock.

It looks/feels like it'll work very well, but haven't gotten to the range yet. The weather is getting nice here so I might just have to do it.

Unless that is a long eye relief pistol scope you will have problems and it needs to moved backwards towards the front of the receiver

It's an Intermediate Eye Relief scope and I have moved it a few notches toward the receiver. Still haven't made it to the range, but it appears to focus very well based on home tests.
