    Seller says:

    "Saving Private Ryan"

This 1903 is a "REPRESENTATION of an ORIGINAL U S MARINE SNIPER RIFLE" (ie;clone) It has a LYMAN scope just like the early snipers. The floorplate was obviously replaced with a stamped one probably at an arsenal rebuild . The barrel is stamped_ 4-44. The bore is shiny with sharp rifling. (seethe picture of a 100 meter target it has 6 rounds there) And yes the scope has it's return spring still attached because it returns to battery after every shot automatically instead of manually doing it like the Marines hadto.(guess I'm lazy). Yes that slot is for a Peterson device. Nice to know the reciever is properly heat treated.Barrel is floating under the handguards. It really isn't very pretty but beauty is in the eye of the beholder. To me she is lovely. I've had fun with this Sniper now someone else will have their turn. Whoever ends up with her I hope they appreciate and look after this old beauty. I will send some other targets with the rifle showing other loads to use also a target with the elevation adjustments for the scope. Any questions that you have please feel free to ask. (too bad it isn't original, I saw one down south go for $15,000 ) I am asking $ 1995.00 delivered insured for full amount

Are Mk.1 Springfields "high number"? It won't have a stamped floorplate - it will have a stamped triggerguard assembly. Stamped 03A3 didn't have a separate floorplate.
OK, it was a representative Mk.1 rifle likely rebuilt during its period of service. It has been fitted with a Lyman Targetspot scope to simulate a USMC sniper. A Lyman Targetspot may sell for $500, if it is a nice one. What was the Mk.1 worth before being bubba'd?
Two grand for the rig? I hope so; that means I would be able to at least double my money if I sell my 03A3&3/4. It is at least as acurate.

They must be giving away free crack over at CGN these days...? Did he say 2K!?!?!?!?!?!?!?!?! And he didn;t even bother to locate proper bottom metal either?

I think I can comfortably pass on this one.

I knew bad things could only come of VGS foolishly listing a mixmaster Mk1 for $1500...

I commented in the other thread. This is WAY overpriced. Also, the bolt handle doesn't look right, does it? and for 2K, you'd thing he could have picked up $40 worth of bottom metal to at least make that look right...?

At 2K, it should be BTT'd at CGN for a long time to come.

The bolt was likely altered to clear the scope. The Private Ryan connection is interesting, because if you recall, in the movie, the sniper was switching different patterns of scopes back and forth. This was simply not the case with issue rifles, simply movie work.

They also didn;t use a Lyman Targetspot in the movie... nor an M1903 for that matter. It was a "made for the movie" 1903A4 clone.

The movie rifle was also able to hold more than 5rounds without reloading.
