1914 drill purpose rifles

I'm considering buying a 1914 drill purpose rifle, primarily to salvage the stock and stock metal in order to replace the stock on a Woinchester 1914 enfield that I have that currently resides in a 1917 stock.

This may only make sense if I can net some of the cost by salvaging the receiver.

Anyone know whether the receiver from DP 1914 Enfields are generally re-usable ?

I have several P-14 DP rifles. They are stamped DP all over. The scope mount covers the stamping on the receiver, The floor plate has to be polished out, welded or replaced. Depending on how vigorously the stamper did his work. The bottom of the trigger guard is stamped and sometimes the bolt handle and the extractor.
The biggest thing is that the chamber is drilled. They go in right through the wood. They get the stock and the and hand guard. I have found no way to repair the damage.
All of the receivers have been good and I build very large caliber rifles from them. The only one I ever was worried about was the posting "Rockwell Test" that was well covered by the members of this forum.

Was the barrel welded to the receiver?

no the barrels arent welded to the receivers, the drill a large hole, through the chamber, handguard and all.
some P14 DP rifles are streched , bent or damaged, beyond safe firing,
if you choose to use a P14 DP receiver for a live rifle, have it check, and magnufluxed for cracks.
14,s and 17,s are very strong, but very soft, 3.5% nickle steel, and unly surface hardened.
