Old Mk2 or new Ka-Bar?

Which is the better choice for a working field knife - a VN era Mk2 - Camillus/ Conetta / Ontario - or a new commercial Ka-Bar? I trust the old Mk2's but don’t want to use up the last of the breed. Are the new Ka-Bars as good a product as the ‘old breed’ or just a simulated look-alike?

An ad claimed you could ‘pound pegs’ with the newest Ka-Bar Utility Knife but I thought the pommels were made of ‘powdered metal’. I’ve had occasion to ‘pound pegs’ with a Camillus, but don’t know if the look-alikes would stand the strain.

I saw a review of a new Ka-Bar Utility Knife on youtube that spoke highly of the plastic sheath and rubberish grip, but this same reviewer has blown smoke on occasion. The new Ka-Bar blades just don’t look to have the same type of forging and milling as the GI knives.

Gerry-I think what they mean is the pommel has a protective coating of the powdered metal. There are still plenty of the originals around at a good price if you keep an eye out. As far as driving a stake, use a piece of log or branch,you'll get more leverage and save the knife. SKIP
