    No. 4 wood

I noticed that collector's source has some ($$) lee enfield beech wood. I love the look of the Irish contract rifles but don't love the cost. I was thinking of ordering a set and putting it on my mismatched savage. It is worth the cost or should I just buy a new rifle. On a related note, I like the look of the possibly Maltby enfield that CS has had for some time but me thinks it might be overpriced.

I wish I'd just bough that nice one P&S had a few months ago.

The same wood that CS has can also be had from Brian Dickicon Ltd in the US for about half the price. There are other dealers in the US that have it for even cheaper...try Springfield sporters or even Numrich arms.

The wood I have received has been salvaged from unissued rifles. There is not a mark on the outside, but you can see the faint imprint where the receiver rested on the wood at the king screw.

The wood is not always a bolt on, although sometimes you get lucky. To get the barrel to rest properly on the bearing surface at the end of the wood, you may have to remove some wood at the receiver/barrel areas. Without doing this properly, you will not come anywhere near getting the full accuracy potential out of these rifles.

I just replaced the unfinished beech stock on my Savage with the correct Savage marked wood set.

I was going to fleabay it but I'm no very impressed with their new regulations.
I'll beat the hell out of the price at Collectors Source. The only thing is that the buttstock is slightly darker than the rest of the set.
Here's a pic, drop me a PM if it looks like it'll suit you, but no pressure if not.

If there's a way to lighten up that butt I'm certainly interested.
