Ishapore 2A1

Happy New Year everyone. Have a bit of a problem. I've a ishapore 2A1 with what I believe is a front sight leaning to the left. With the front sight protector
on the rifle it looks like the entire front sight is leaning to the left. However with it off and sighting down the barrel over the sights it looks normal. Is this correctable?. Frank

Its seemingly normal on 2A1's. Shoot some 147-150 gr NATO spec ball and see if the groups are more or less centered. If your zero is well off, get back to us.

The forend is probably warped. I've seen it before. There are methods for straightening it using steam and clamps. The only other option is to replace it. Be sure and check the headspace on your 2A1 before you shoot it. Many of those rifles are very tired and out of specification. It's pertinent as you're stressing the receiver to it's maximum limits with 7.62 ammo. It's mythology that they're made of a stronger grade of steel than the old SMLE too so better to be safe than sorry.

There's a gentleman who posted under my "Thanks" title above on the Lee Enfield forum who successfully steamed the warp out of a No.5 forend. You might want to contact him to see how it's done. As long as the barrel isn't bearing on the channel inside, it can be repaired.
