ok, well I searched my Charles R. Stratton book and I found nothing to help me determine what No.4 I have.

So, I'll run it by you guys and see if maybe you guys can explain her origin.

    first: barrel markings (5 groove)
top side front of the front sight reads:

BNP with a crown on top
    .303 2.222
    18.5 tons per sq."
    looks like crossing flags

    second: receiver crest
    BNP with crown on top

    third: right side of receiver
    MK.1 NO.4 (obviously) nothing else

fourth: left side receiver socket reads:
    Englandicon
    M1943
    B C
    1116* (serial #)

fifth: bolt handle (no hole in knob but cut flat)
    BNP/crown above
    B C 1116*(SN)

    sixth: finish
    barrel, bolt, receiver
very dark black parkerizing and very uniform all the way around.

all metal is very smooth with no milling let off marks

    walnut timber

    buttstock markings:
bottom just before the hook reads
    SL
    N
    74

    crown
    n
    84

    bottom behind the hook reads
    white paint 40

    OK guys, what is she?????

Birmingham Nitro Proofed for a 303 cartridge length 2.22" at a proof pressure of 18.5 tons per aquare inch. All weapons sold on the UK civilian market must have a civilian proof - even ex military weapons

    second: receiver crest

Are you sure its not No4 Mk1, is there anything very very faint like "ROFM" or "ROF" you might only see it with a camera or magnifying glass

fourth: left side receiver socket reads:
    Englandicon
    M1943
    B C
    1116* (serial #)
Could be ROF (Royal ordnance Factory) Maltby in Yorkshire and the date 1943
    fifth: bolt handle
    BNP/crown above
    B C 1116*(SN)

    Proof as above

    sixth: finish
    barrel, bolt, receiver
very dark black parkerizing and very uniform all the way around.

    OK guys, what is she?????

    Hope that helps.

Based on the S/N you have given, BC1116X, and the "M" on the buttsocket, it is a Maltby rifle.
