Improved Battlesight Zero

In Lt. Colonel Santose explanation of exceptions to battlesight zero (in TM9-1005-319-10), he states in paragraph 6 line 2 "Small aperture, nose to firing handle weld."
Can someone explain, to this noob, what this means? Do you sight in with the small un-marked aperture or the large, marked 0-2 aperture?

The military zero also assumes the appropriate ammo for the platform- M193(early) or M855(current).

Your nose touches the carry handle. This gives you the correct eye to aperature distance. Use the small aperature to eliminate error in sight picture. The large aperature is close quarter low light. The small aperature is deliberate and long range...to eliminate sight picture error.

I am sighting in an Armalite M15A4, 16 in barrel with both detachable carry handle and front sight at 50 yards (IAW Lt. Colonel Santose instructions). Ammo is Swiss surplus 5.6mm Gw Pat 90 (63 gr?). This is the only ammo I currently have.

In this case, drive on, everything is proper to each other. There's so many changes over the years to the platform that exceptions can easily crop up. Not a problem here.

BTW work w/ the nose forward position if you can. It is easier to maintain uniform head position this way, for most folk. I now do better w/ a head rearward position for deliberate work, but its slower. If your head is not in the same place for shot to shot (talkin' small changes, here) your POI will shift, ruining the shot! The small aperature minimizes the potential unnoticed error.

The usual disclaimer: 25 yard/meter zero is just a starting point. Confirm zeros at the longer ranges , if at all possible.

IMO , m4 is head and shoulders over the other " for pay '" AR site in terms of reliable , useful info with a minimum of useless fluff....
