    last ditch

It definately is not a series 1. if it were a series 1 it would have all early features . This is a last ditch and looks to be a series 8 or 10.

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Slightly off topic and I 'll defer to the recognized experts about the details on this:
My last ditch stock was built with a two peice forestock. At first I thought it was a duffle cut -- but the construction , wood grain , and assembly/disassembly procedure pointed to " designed & built that way ".
From what I gathered during research a few years ago , two peice last ditch forestocks are fairly common but not universal .
The pics look like a real duffle cut on that one.
