    WW1 Springfield 1911 question

Did Springfield produce any ww1 vintage slides w/o any markings on the right side of the slide?

A Collector's View - The SMLE Short Magazine Lee Enfield 1903-1989. It is 300 8.5x11 inch pages with 1,000+ photo’s, most in color, and each book is serial-numbered. Covering the SMLE from 1903 to the end of production in India in 1989 it looks at how each model differs and manufacturer differences from a collecting point of view along with the major accessories that could be attached to the rifle. Nope...not on production pistols. If you've got or seen an SA slide without the M1911 markings on the right side, they've probably been scrubbed by someone trying to hide the fact that the pistol was stolen. Often the UNITED STATES PROPERTY marking is scrubbed, too. Sometimes the serial numbers have been altered or obliterated, too.

Pistols with removed or altered markings are a boat anchor that will drag you to the bottom of the pond as far as collectible USGI pistols are concerned.

I haven't bought, nor do I think I will. It's curious that there is no indication of anything being ground off. Seems there would be an indent of sorts in that location, but nothing. Hense my question. Thanks
