Well, to be honest, she shoots better than I do at most long distances. It took me 5 rounds with 4 corrections to drop the same LaRue target ....

With Federal Match .308 168gr at 1,000 meters, the rounds go sub-sonic (under 1,089 FPS) somewhere after 900 meters. They start tumbling and most of them in a grouping are actually passing though the paper targets sideways. You can see the bullet silouettes in side profile.

In actual fact, they start to get unstable after 800 meters, but when we shot from the 900 meter point, not all of them were "wonky" through the paper like we saw when shooting from 1,000 meters.

We switched to Federal Match .308 155gr and all of the holes were clean from 1,000 meters because the bullets apparently stayed super sonic all the way to the paper. Unfortunately, you can't buy this ammo any longer as Federal no longer makes it.

    Regards,
    Badger

Are there any other match .308 bullets you can use?

    Not sure....

We were going to start checking on what commercial off-the-shelf (we don't reload) match grade 155gr we could find locally, that would be equivalent.

Both the Federal 168gr and 155gr conrographed with a standard deviation of 10 in our rifles, which is terrrific for commercial ammo. It's often hard to get and loads down to that level.

We cronographed some Australianicon Winchester 155gr match ammo that Milcun had up there, but came in with a standard deviation of over 21 on both our rifles.

    Badger
