Wanted, easy shooting 6.5 Swede load.

I have been shooting and hunting with the 6.5 Swede for years however my efforts have always been towards a strong, accurate hunting load and for many years have been made specifically for '98 actioned rifles, Rem 700 and the Winchester model 70. For these rifles I began with 4831 and then Reloader 22.

I have a nice old Swede 96 in full configuration with a Swedish rear peep sight on the rear receiver bridge. It has been calling out to me for some fun shooting and I would like to hear what your favorites are? I would like to have something that shoots nice for casual shooting up to 300 meters and is easy on the rifle. I have lots of 129 and 140 grain Hornady bullets to shoot up so most interested in you powders and loads. I will be using a bunch of Winchester brass I have on hand.

Hi Outdoors,

I use the following load in my Swede: 139 grs Lapua Silver Scenar, CCI BR2 Primers, 34.5grs N140 VV, OAL 78,2mm it gives shotgroups of 3" - 4" at 300m from a bench out of my M38. The load will also fit with your 140grs bullet. If you dont have the N140 you can try loads with the Hogdon H380 wich has a similar burning rate. A good friend use lighter bullets with the N110 VV but i dont know the datas. If you`re interested in let me know and i`ll ask him.

If your 96 is a long barrel, probably the N160 is more indicated, I use 43-43,6 grs according to the season, Sierra 140-142 hpbt or Lapua scenar 139grs, actually am testing the Hornady hpbt 140 grs with good results,the brass is always Norma

I like 44 gr. of H4831 with a Sierra 160 gr. SMP bullet, seated to give an O.A.L. of 3.020. Very pleasant to shoot.

RE22/47gr/Win brass/Fed mag primer/140 Sierra or Hornady 1/2" groups at 100 Yards out of a T-3 TIKKA. If you want to shoot through two moose and a fire hydrant 42gr/IMR 4350 or N-204/160gr Hornady or 156gr SAKO RN....PS you won't recover any bullets.In hole /out hole and a blood trail Stevie Wonder could follow...............use at own risk...........Harold

the best grooup ever with the new scope on yesterday at 100 yds. was 45 grains of H4350/lapua brass/fed primer/120 grain nosler. shoots easy, half inch 5 shot group, no kidding. I mounted the new Leupold 2-8 power up front , extended eye relief, on the scope mounting system from YK and it works great. I would have to say the Leupold folks just know how to make scopes, clear and consistent.

Local turkey shoots used to be very popular. My winning combo in a M38 was 35.0 grs of 4064 under 140gr Horn. SP. With open sites and eyes 20 yrs younger I could keep them under an inch and a quarter at 100 yds most of the time. Check a manual and you will find this near a starting load. I've always had good sucess with 4064 in "mid bore" (6.5- 8mm) military rifles

My "Soft Load" It is 107grs Sierra Matchking, 25.3grs VV N110, CCI BR-2, OAL is 78.2mm ( .3,0787") Cases are PRVI ( CL 50mm/1.968"). Best group was 5 rounds, diameter 17mm with scoped M38 at 100 yards.
