Variations of the G.98/40

Someone mentioned recently that there were three different variations of the G.98/40.

Claven has a beautiful example in the MKL icon

but neither there, nor via google, could I come up with any solid info or pics regarding the differences in each variation.

Anyone feel like educating me?

The other two are the Hungarian icon

35M and the 43M. As stated in the MKL icon

for the 98/40, first came the 35M, the last gun purpose-built for the 8x56R round, then the G98/40, then the 43M.

I'd read that, but thought the write up insinuated that there were three variations of the German icon

I actually think the 35m is the sexiest of all three.
Andy, which magazine setup do you prefer, having handled both?

I'd take the mauser box magazine like found in the G98/40 and 43M any day. No clip required, and you can top up the mag by simply adding a round.

They were quite interesting, but IIRC the bolt would lock up (on half cock???) and you were un-able to cycle the action...

Of course an enfield doest the same thing...
