    Exclamation $40 box of parts

Just bought a box of parts for $40. The guy that sold them to me said he bought them a few years after he bought a DCM Springfield. He's a friend so I have no reason not to believe him. He sold the rifle a few years ago and just found the box of spares. Couldn't remember if they were for an 03 or 03-A3. Anyway. the parts are in separate anticorrosion envelopes packed by the Army and so marked. The envelopes are sealed and marked with a part number, item description and other info I can't identify. A sample of the markings are as follows:
    1005-600-8759 LOCK-SAFETY 1EA C/ 5-71

    1005-614-6883 SPRING 1 EA A B-63

    1005-731-0025 PLUNGER, CUT OFF 1 EA C 11-68

    I HAVE 2 QUESTIONS.

1 Does anyone have a link to the US Army part numbers to the 03 and 03-A3 Springfield so I can ID them?

    2. When I sell them, should I take them out of the sealed envelopes or sell the unopened envelopes. I'm thinking eBay or Gunbroker.com, or one of the forum classifieds.

These are definitely old. I even found a local newspaper from 1975 in the box which was post marked 1973 from the U.S. Army.

If you have more than one package of the same part, same part numbers on package, I would open 1 to see how it is marked and to take pic for potential buyers. Then they can see what they are getting. No reason to believe the other packages are any different.

I would cut the package even if there was only one on small parts like those. I don't think it would hurt the value on those small parts. New is new.

see, i would leave them in the package..10 years down the road, they will be a hot collectable..
i have a few ammo cans full of common 03 and 1911 parts..all new in the package..
though they arent worth a bunch, i think they are neet..

Leave them in the package. Do not open anything.

Unless noted I beleieve these are relatively late model repair parts for all the 03, 03A3 and 03-A4 rifles.
I am guessing they are late production since the envelopes use the NSN stock numbers.

1005-600-8759 LOCK-SAFETY 1EA C/ 5-71 - this should be a complete safety assembly, inc Safety thumbpiece, plunger spindle and spring

    1005-614-6883 SPRING 1 EA A B-63 - 03 & 03-A1 magazine catch spring

    1005-731-0025 PLUNGER, CUT OFF 1 EA C 11-68
My information indicates this part is:

1005-731-0026 Plunger CUTOFF - This is the little screw machine part that provides the detent for the magazine cutoff.

    Hope this helps,

    Regards,

    Jim

Perhaps you can tell which spring it is by the dimension without opening the package.

I presume it is round so that eliminates the magazine follower spring.
The spring for the striker/firing pin is about .4" dia by 4.5" long.
The sear spring is .2" dia by .475" long
The cut off plunger spring would be about .125" dia by about .3" long

JGaynor answered the question of what the parts are by use of the Federal Stock Numbers. It is the Spring for the magazine floorplate catch. His post is just above yours.
