    6700,

My neighbor who had an unsecured wireless internet connection has moved, so I am back on dial-up and can not get much of a look at your photos. A nice, orignial '99 carbine can easily be worth over $1,000. A fake, of course, is worth much less, but any good shooter Kragicon is worth $200 in my opinion.

There are people on this list who an tell you much more about your carbine that I can, and I'm sure they will weigh in.

    Good luck!

    jn

Are there fakes of 30-40 krag? I have one and it has no markings on it. It has the mag cut off.

I can't even imagine what "faking a Kragicon" would cost. The guns were massively over-finished. They're works of art. "They don't build them like they used to" is particularly apt in regards to Krag rifles.

They could have built the same functionality for much much less. WW2 was the real beginning of the "stamped metal" guns. '03A3 rifles were much easier to make than the original '03. Is it "inferior" for usage? No. The Krags were over-built. Very much so.

I can't imagine what it would cost to make one today. It'd be ugly.

I have a Kragicon carbine. Great shooter! Smooth as warm butter. Model 1899. Made 1900. SN 281416. 1901 sight. All correct except for an attempt to put a sling on it by previous owner.

There is a "c" on front sight blade. Two or three on the rear sight. Possibly Italianicon walnut. 22 inch barrel

Go to this to compare your rifle to theirs. Krag Collectors Association

If it's a cut-down rifle it's worth maybe $250 give or take. If it's a good fake but still a workmanlike fake you may get more. If it's a real carbine, over $1,000. Better pics with close-ups would help.

Come on guys, look at the pictures!!! Nothing about the rifle is correct for a carbine other than the 1899 date (esp the holes drilled in the sideplate...) It looks like it would be a good shooter. $250 range... hth
