    BSA serial number?

Recently acquired a No4 Mk1 that went through FTR in 48. Have read several post on serial numbers but am still confused.
Serial number is AM 26xx. Is this a BSA made rifle?

    Thanks,

    bonnie

Thats is one I looked at.
Did BSA (all factories?) use two letters in their prefix if needed?
The chart does indicate Faz using two letter prefixes.
    Thats my confusion.

    Thanks,
    bonnie

If it is a BSA made rifle it should have M47 stamped above the serial No.

The number range and prefix are consistent with a rifle made at BSA around 1942/43

    Thank you for the information.

Most of the original marking are scrubbed or under the black paint.
The serial numbers and the Faz rebuild marks are all that are legible.
