Self Regulating Gas Plug - Prototype Stage

A little project I have been working on ... a self regulating port pressure gas plug for the M14/M1Aicon type rifles.

This should allow virtually any weight/powder combination including "light mag" commercial loads to be used out of a otherwise standard M14 type rifle.

Nothing to complicated. Similar systems are used in power control systems using pneumatics/hydrolics to control over pressure. Steam engines also used a similar method. I just adopted it to work with the M14/M1A rifles. The unit itself is small, doesn't sick out all that much more then the original gas plug (consider everything on the right side (narrow shaft) is to scale to the rest of it based on my M1A gas plug).

Proper 2D drawings to follow, once I redo all the math to check everything's ability to work properly.

Looks pretty exciting. Have you considered the same for the M1icon Garand?

I don't own a M1icon but I could adapt it as required to suit.

I'm going to contact a few parts makers to see who is interested, if there is interest since I couldn't afford to produce them I'll give them the design freely. Really if everyone knows I designed it is enough royalty for me if I can commercialize it.

You might want to contact Mike Stacey. He's taking over for Jim Swartz on his op-rod rebuilding and straightening. They should be able to make your part.
