Ithaca 1911A1 slide?

Hello all,
I recently procured my first 1911A1. I'm new to the world of military handguns (always been more of a rifle guy) but I am quickly learning to understand the addiction. From what I have learned, I have a basic beater mixed parts gun. And I'm fine with that because it was within my budget. I have an Ithaca frame with a Colt slide. I would like to put an Ithaca slide back onto it and was wondering what they "generally" go for when you see them. I'm not looking for anything pristine or museum grade. Just an honest piece of history with some "seasoning". It also has a Vietnam era barrel in it which I would like to replace down the line as well. However, if the parts are going to run me more than I paid for the gun then I'm just going to be happy with what I have as she still shoots like a champ. Thanks for any info guys.

Congratulations on your 1911A1 purchase. It would be interesting to see pictures of your new pistol if you'd like to post them, and also make it easier to deterimine whether you have an actual arsenal rebuild or something that someone has put together from parts. A good indicator of this is can be the presence of rebuild markings stamped into the receiver near the trigger, and matching parkerized finish on both the slide and receiver. Arsenal rebuilds are sought after by some collectors and usually have more value than just a parts gun.

If it is just a parts gun, and you'd like to find a matching slide, that will probably set you back around $100-$200 depending on condition, though you might be able to trade for your Colt slide or sell it outright to offset the cost. The correct HS barrel will probably run another $100 or so for a nice one. What you'll have to decide is how much you want to spend to get the correct parts, and still have a gun that is not and will never be original, or to leave it as is and enjoy it. Hope this helps.

Thanks! And I will try and get some pics up soon, having some technical difficulties on my end lately.... You know, you make some good points that I had not considered. I would have not known that the gun was not all Colt unless the guy I bought it from had told me. At least not until I got it home and did some research. The reason I say that is that the finish and wear seem to be pretty consistent on both the slide and frame. Like I said before, mine is a pretty worn compared to most others I have seen, the writing on the slide is pretty faint but still legible. Though function is still very tight and it doesn't rattle very much at all. None the less it's probably not very collectible to anyone but me I would imagine, but I love the way she shoots.

Right now it is an honest representation of U.S. G.I 1911A1 and I'm pretty happy with that. The only way you would see this thing in a museum is if it were being used as a door stop, BUT.... as I said, it's good enough for me and I think I will take what you say to heart and just leave it alone. Depending on the serial number, a 'F' Flannery Bolt barrel may be correct as well.

Good catch on the Flannery Bolt barrel as another possibility, Oldcanuck, it could have had either originally.

Nhetzer, it sounds like you're already enjoying your new find, and that's what's important (ust realize that collecting these pistols is really addictive, and before you know it, you'll be wanting others). I look forward to seeing your pictures if/when you can post them.

My old pistol consisted of the Ithaca slide, mated to a Colt frame.

I recently purchased a Gunbroker pistol that had the correct slide and frame to create a Colt pistol, and an Ithaca, but alas, some previous owner had blued the old gun, and left me with two pistols that don't look too good togehter.

I will gladly send more photos of my "first" pistol with it's silver/gray finish and would very much enjoy making both of our old pistols whole again!
